Raising and Giving
for RSPCA’s Llys Nini.

As many of you will know, this year at TSDSU we have been working very closely with the RSPCA’s Llys Nini; offering regular opportunities to students in every aspect of the work they do. Llys Nini is an animal sanctuary that supports and houses many unwanted or mistreated animals that are looking for another chance at a happy life. Even with the work that animal sanctuary’s do, many animals suffer and die on the streets or have to be euthanised for lack of good homes. Up to as many as 21 dogs are euthanised in shelters around the UK every single day.

At TSDSU our student’s feel passionately about making a difference to the lives of these less fortunate animals and have done so by volunteering at the shelter. Our students take the time to volunteer and walk the dogs to try and make a positive impact on the animals that really need it. A number of our students have written about their experiences here and here. A number of volunteers and staff from TSDSU also took part in ‘The Big Plant II’ which saw students of UWTSD plant over 400 trees for the wildlife that inhabits Llys Nini’s grounds (see how it went here). Having built a good relationship with Llys Nini it would only be fitting if we helped them maintain the good work they do by helping in one of the most important aspects of their continuity; fundraising.

RAG (Raising & Giving) is a student led initiative whose mission is to make fundraising fun and accessible to all students, whilst also raising lots of money for some great causes. November was our RAG month here at TSDSU and it was a huge success; with numerous event’s taking place across all three sites, but we haven’t stopped there. On Wednesday the 6th of December students from Swansea got together with some staff at Llys Nini and helped fundraise for the animal sanctuary.

A group of students took to Llansamlet Tesco in hope to raise awareness and as much as they could to support Llys Nini’s cause. They dressed up all Christmassy and made a huge effort to collect as much as possible in true Christmas spirit. Our students worked hard and sold Llys Nini’s 'Rescue Animals Christmas Dinner Gift Cards' along with their pens, dog bandanas and anything else they had to offer.

We at TSDSU would like to thank everyone who donated on the day to make the lives of the animals better. We would also like to thank the fundraising team at Llys Nini for allowing us to help out and make it a successful day. It would go without saying that the star of the day was Bear, a Romanian street dog who was without a home at the time, but his affectionate nature won over the hearts of so many on the day and soon after he went to a loving, lifelong home. On the day we managed to raise over £200 which will undoubtedly go to good use.

A huge thank you to all the students that were involved!
