The tastiest way to discover a different culture is in the kitchen. We’re sharing an iconic African or Caribbean recipe every week in October for Black History Month. Why not give this one a try?

We’re shaking it up this week, with dessert, Caribbean Rum Cake! Sweet treat perfect for the festive season (and for the rest of the year too).
Origin
If there’s one beverage associated with the Bahamas, it’s Rum! It’s been made there as early as 1600 and was even smuggled into the US during prohibition (thanks to close geographical proximity).
Local people found more uses than just drinking it, using it in recipes such as the well-known ‘Jamaican Rum Cake’, a tasty dessert that links to fruit pudding that was brought to the Caribbean by European colonists in the 18th century.
