Polar Blast at Buckmore Park (BUKC Round 1)
On Wednesday 8th February UWTSD Karting participated in the first round of the BUKC at Buckmore Park. The team turned up to a frosty Buckmore Park in the early hours of Wednesday morning with the temperatures plummeting below 0.
Matthew ventured out for Qualifying with frosted tyres onto the white circuit managing to set some of the fastest laps in the early stages of the session before getting caught out in yellow flags. Resulting in a P12 qualifying position but P16 after penalties.
It was now Aeddan’s turn to take to the track but just like everyone else struggled with the slippery conditions. Aeddan qualified P28 but P32 after penalties.
Stanley’s qualifying “went better than expected” for his first time competing in the BUKC. Stanley qualified P21 after penalties.
Will had a strong qualifying session keeping his nose clean getting P12 after penalties, which was a great result.
Overall the team struggled with the treacherous icy conditions. The track evolved throughout the day with the earliest sessions being the most slippery as the frost began to melt.
Onto the races:
Starting P16 Matt quickly got up to P3 in the early stages of the race before getting taken out by a back marker 3/4 of the way through the race dropping to P9 but recovering back to P3. After penalties, he finished P7.
Aeddan progressed well, gaining lots of positions and picking his way through the pack from P32 to P20 after penalties gaining over 10 places.
Stanley was involved in turn-one chaos dropping him down the order. He spent the majority of the race fighting it out in a crowd of karts being stuck in a “train”. Finishing P28.
Will had a chaotic race getting caught out by the first lap drama dropping him back 10 positions which he fought hard for to make his way through karts to finish P22 after penalties.
As a team we enjoyed ourselves and it was a good experience for the first race of the season. Hopefully, we can achieve some better results moving forward. PFi is the next round taking place on the 16th of February.
